Abstract :
The paper explains the basic design for wireless sensor networks based system for traffic collision avoidance. The present technologies are not adequate to prevent fast moving vehicles from collision. WSN with essential electronics could be used to effectively address these issues. The design envisages equipping of vehicles and lamp posts with a XBee modules along with an Arduino or Foxboro® and Triconex® modules from Invensys Operations Management . The exact position of the car is to be calculated by the arrival time of a fixed data from the vehicle between two successive lamp posts-receivers using "triangle" algorithm. A mother controller would keep track of the positions of all the vehicles. The controller in the vehicle would have direct control over the speed of the vehicle and steering. The mother controller will summon the controller in the vehicles to reduce speed or relocate the vehicle depending on their current positions and status of the vehicles.
