Abstract
The applied research FP6 programme on micro, nano, bio for medical applications included a major initiative on the development of new medical implants and diagnostic equipment, under the Healthy Aims project. This 23M€, 4 ½ year project, with 25 partners from 10 EU countries has achieved remarkable success and now has a range of prototypes in laboratory trials and some in clinical trials. On the body diagnostic equipment that has been developed and successfully completed pilot clinical trials after obtaining Ethics approval include: • Human activity monitor and ‘Gait analyser’ • ‘Out of the gait lab system’ • Glaucoma sensor
