Abstract :
The widespread use of computer control systems in safety critical applications means that, if computer control systems fail, it is not difficult to envisage personal injury or damage to property. Where personal injury or damage occurs there may be a potential legal liability for the manufacturer or supplier of a defective component. This will include the supplier of a computer controlled unit as well as the author of software. Legal liability may arise in several different ways
