Abstract
The commonly used Oulton power converter for switched reluctance motors (SRM) gives the problem of increased ripple in the motor torque produced. The concept and analysis of current-source power converters (CSCs) are presented in this paper with the main aim of obtaining reduced torque ripple. Using a comparison of harmonic torques produced in CSCs and the Oulton power converter, the paper examines the effects of different parameters on the harmonic torques in CSCs. The paper also discusses three zones of the torque-speed characteristic of SRMs fed by CSCs
