  • Abstract
    This paper derives the optimal safety stock policy for the case of a continuous deterministic production process and Poisson demand for the end product. It is possible to keep in-process safety stocks as well as a safety stock of the end product. We show that the optimal solution can be derived recursively and illustrate the procedure with the aid of a numerical example.
