Abstract
The preprocessing used consists in extracting the durations separing two extremas of the acoustical signal. Properties of such a coding scheme are presented. Its simplicity has allowed us to realize an efficient isolated words recognition system. It is basically mono-speaker, each speaker carrying out his own learning phase. It is entirel software made and is implemented on an INTEL 8086 microprocessor. Results are obtained less than 0.5 second after the end of the word with 98 % of good recognition for 32 words. A machine, named TOPAR, allowing the control of the environment for an handicapped has been realized, which permits to command vocally 16 switches and which gives excellent results.
