Abstract
Estimation of a suitable window shape and appropriate weights in weighted median filters is one of important problems. In this paper, we propose a new unsupervised design method for the window shapes and weights of weighted median filters. This technique is applied to texture images corrupted by impulse noise. As the performance measure for optimization by simulated annealing, rank-ordered absolute differences (ROAD) statistic is used for the estimation of the window shapes and weights, respectively. The simulation results show that the proposed method can design the weighted median filters with almost same performance compared to the one by the supervised technique.
