Abstract
A specialized genetic algorithm for numerical optimization problems is described and the application of such algorithms to discrete-time optimal control problems is discussed. Numerical results obtained are compared with those obtained from a classical genetic algorithm and a system for construction and solution of large and complex mathematical programming models, GAMS. As this specialized algorithm is only a part of a proposed unified generic package, further extensions are also outlined
