Abstract :
The development of an expert system for brief psychotherapy is described. In this domain, generalized patterns and unique cases are mixed in the domain expertise. The domain experts have only limited rules and limited cases. It is therefore difficult to use existing expert system technology. To resolve the problem a case-supported expert system has been developed. The result is BRIEFER-S, which is basically a rule-based expert system with a case library. An abstract model that covers the entire domain has been developed to make the solution domain complete. Each case is described in terms of a generalized patterns and also keeps its unique description to support the intermediate-level user
