Abstract
For real-time image compression block truncation coding (BTC) is an attractive algorithm; it is simple to code, computationally fast and has good reconstruction image quality. Its main drawback is its high bit-rate of 2.0 bit/pixel. The authors show how the algorithm can be modified to take into account interblock correlations. The new algorithm retains all the advantages of the original BTC algorithm but with a much lower bit-rate
