Abstract :
The Received Signal Strength Indicator of a radio channel provides a feasible way of estimating the range between sensors. An indoor scenario is considered and how the medium characteristics and node hardware inconsistency influence the RSS-based ranging is analyzed. It will be proven through experimental results that each pair of sensor nodes has a different error characteristic which is influenced by different factors like antenna rotation and a slight location variation for the same scenario.
