Abstract :
Design considerations and a part-task evaluation methodology for a submarine weapon-employment aid are discussed. The domain of SALVO is submarine torpedo attack, specifically engagements in which multiple torpedoes are fired against multiple targets. The aid provides assessment and planning features. These features are included as modules in a software toolbox, which the decision maker can call upon as the tactical situations warrants. SALVO´s three situation assessment aids and its planning module are discussed. Results from the first experiment conducted to test the experimental methodology, which entailed placing a graphic targeting aid on the geographic display, are presented
