Abstract
AVTIS is a 94 GHz dual-mode radar/radiometric imager designed to survey volcanic lava domes. The FMCW radar provides topographic and reflectivity maps and the radiometer yields thermal images of the scene. The data generated by AVTIS are used by volcanologists to validate numerical models of lava dome growth and collapse, ultimately leading to improved hazard warning.
