Abstract
A lot of individual technological solutions in industries, where the physical benefits of using microwaves result finally in commercial gain, have been developed. Investigations on heating CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastics) with microwaves have been undertaken for decades but failed due to the lack of a sufficient homogeneous electromagnetic heating field or reasonable costs for suitable sources and components providing industrial scale up. The HEPHAISTOS concept originally developed and patented at FZK solves these long existing problems.
