Abstract :
This paper deals with the Kalman canonical decomposition of time-varying discrete-time linear systems, based on the classical properties of reachability, controllability, observability and reconstructibility. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of such a decomposition is provided. This condition is given in terms of dimensional invariance of some structural subspaces.
