            Abstract :
This paper presents electronic ballast using Class-E rectifier with tapped inductor for power factor correction. The low line current harmonic is obtained by insert the Class-E rectifier between the front-end bride rectifier and the bulk filter capacitor to increase the conduction angle of the bridge rectifier diode current. The impedance matching is obtained by a high frequency tapped inductor. The simulation results of 36W/220V ballast present that the power factor was 0.994, the total efficiency was 90%, and the lamp crest factor was 1.41. The experimental results of the prototype ballast show that the power factor was 0.998, the total efficiency was 86%, and THDi was 5.6%.
