  • Abstract
Technological and design aspects of optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEICs) as wide-spread CMOS and BiCMOS ASICs are considered. Two examples of read-OEICs for optical storage systems like DVD (digital video disc or digital versatile disc) systems in full custom design will be presented. The advantages of monolithically integrated optoelectronic receiver circuits compared to two-chip solutions with wire-bonded photodetector and amplifier circuits are shown. In addition to the application of OEICs in optical storage systems, the use of CMOS receiver OEICs in optical interconnect technique or as fiber receivers for optical short range data transmission will be appointed
