    The BellSouth strategy for deploying SONET (synchronous optical network) elements is described. The major factors affecting the early deployment of synchronous systems are covered. The key SONET network elements and their applications in the network are described. The steps for converting the BellSouth network from asynchronous to synchronous systems are outlined
