Abstract :
The numerical errors in the computation of a DFT directly or with an FFT algorithm are considered. The adequacy of well-known statistical approaches is discussed, and a new approach towards the coefficient error description is shown. New results concerning arithmetic errors are reported. The noiselike part of the output error is interpreted, finally, from a new "reliable-bit" point-of-view.
