The development of a Chinese book reading aid system for the blind

This paper describes a reading aid system being developed for the blind to access to chinese books. This system consists of two parts. The one produces a "disc-book" which carries the information of a Chinese book in the form of braille codes. The other Is a remote reading machine which can read the braille codes stored In the "disc-book" and present them to blind readers on a tactile braille display screen. The tactile display is produced by a 3-6 array of pine driven by solenoids. On the base of the system above, a studying machine is being developed , which can help blind students not only "read" but also "write".
