Abstract :
There was a requirement to construct a trawl resistant bottom mount in support of the National Ocean Service´s current monitoring programs in coastal waters. The acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP) to be used in these mounts are miniaturized versions recently developed by major ADCP manufacturers. This paper describes a design that is made of fiberglass reinforced plastics (FRP). The platform has lampshade-like geometry. It is 1.6 m in base diameter, 0.66 m high and weighs about 355 kg in air (230 kg in water). Handling is easy and is especially suitable for current surveys in shallow waters. Other special features including a self-leveling and a cable break out mechanisms are also described
