Abstract :
A proposed technical aid is described to help blind persons perceive images such as a human face and a scene. The image is accessed and explored interactively by touch through two finger-mounted probes, and the pixel intensities are displayed to the user as characteristic stereo auditory signals. Preliminary test results indicate that the subjects can learn to correctly perceive complicated geometric images of several gray levels in a short time.
