Abstract :
Experimental results for electromagnetic field at distances less than km from the lightning channel base exhibit certain features that are difficult to be achieved with most of the engineering models for lightning return strokes from literature. Computation results for the modified transmission line model with exponential decay (MTLE), with linear current decaying with height (MTLL), and for the new two models proposed by the author as MTLT (with the third degree of a linear decaying function) and MTLTQ, are presented in this paper. MTLL and MTLT give better results for closer distances from the channel base.
