Abstract
The success of the so-called geometric approach in extending to continuous time nonlinear systems many important results from linear system theory is well-documented. Recently this approach has been generalized to discrete time nonlinear systems and it now appears that a theory just as rich as the nonlinear continuous time one can be developed. The purpose of this paper is to present the underlying geometric ideas which have led to these developments.
