GIS(Geographic Information System) is an emerging technology which forms along with the information technology development, and has become a hot of scientific research. As an important component part of the information industry, the pillar industry in 21th´s century, GIS Industry greatly affects national comprehensive capability and defense safety. Its application domain is also unceasingly expanding more importantly. After introducing the concept of GIS and relevant knowledge, this paper emphatically introduces the development history of GIS and the present industry situation in China.
