Abstract :
We propose a virtual earth magnetosphere system (VEMS), which is a new research environment for satellites observation data analysis and computer simulations. The VEMS is constructed on 3D visualization tools, which are programmable and interactive. We can handle a variety of phenomena over the Earth magnetosphere at an arbitrary period from an arbitrary viewpoint. In this study, we constructed the VEMS on a 3D visualization tool, Application Visualization System AVS/Express Developer. A recent version of the AVS supports time-dependent visualization functions using time-loop modules. We have applied the VEMS to aurora and AKR observation by satellites. In the VEMS, we could successfully visualized the locations of AKR (auroral kilometric radiation) source regions on assumption that the AKR is excited on the magnetic field lines connected with aurora illumination regions on the Earth. As a possible future development, we propose two systems: combination with network database system and with virtual reality system.
