Abstract :
The author describes how the use of control equipment on a wave power station can result in higher productivity, but it is important to balance the gains against the losses due to decreased reliability. At the end of the day, if the quality of the power supply is inadequate, the wave power system will be unacceptable. Also if the cost of the power supply is not competitive with other sources, then it will not prove applicable. At present, pressure must be placed on reducing the cost per kWh. Increased sophistication of control will only be of value if it results in a reduction in the cost per unit of electricity of energy of acceptable quality
