Abstract :
Physiological and anatomical data on the visual cortex are used to generate a set of criteria for the design of any array of penetrating electrodes to be implanted into the cortex of the brain. Such an array is expected to be used to electrically stimulate neurons of the sensory cortex or to record the neural activity of output structures like the motor cortex. An array intended for implantation into an animal cortex is described
