Abstract :
The author discusses research done in understanding the layout process for printed wiring board (PWB) power supplies, in understanding the needs of the power supply layout designer, and in building a CAD system for doping board layout that supports those needs while being unobtrusive to the user. Reasons why existing CAD systems can be ineffective in certain design areas are discussed. A prototype layout editor has been built that rivals the ease and speed of layout done using paper and pencil. The layout editor is based on a model of layout used by designers of power supplies. Results of its trials are also given
