Abstract
This paper presents a new adaptive control scheme for a class of continuous time nonlinear system described by a Hammerstein model. First, we derive an adaptive control law which can be regarded as an extension of the model reference adaptive control for linear systems. Second, we clarify that the boundedness of all signals in the proposed control system is ensured when the relative degree of the plant is determined by the transfer function from the highest power of the input to the output. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is illustrated through numerical simulations
