Abstract :
An observer with a known nonlinear measurement transformation is given. The problem is to determine performance criteria for which the given observer is optimum. Algebraic conditions that must be satisfied by a class of scalar performance criteria are obtained. Examples are given to illustrate the properties of related nonlinear, linear, and dual-mode observers.
