Abstract :
Hybrid multichannel AM-VSB/QAM subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) systems seem to be a promising method for fibre optic video transmission. Hybrid analog/digital CATV systems have the advantage of compatibility with existing TV equipment and are able to provide new digital services such as VOD. We examine the clipping effects on AM-VSB/QAM CATV systems performance. For AM-VSB channels, the CSO and CTB have been computed and measured. The effect of QAM channels on CSO and CTB has been examined. For QAM channels, clipping induced BER has been computed. We also determine the optimum optical modulation depths (signal power) for QAM and AM-VSB channels when clipping occurs
