  • Abstract
A vibration control scheme based on the sliding mode control (SMC) is studied for gust responses in tall buildings. It is shown that the control scheme can be made adaptive to the changes in the level of wind velocity by appropriately designing a nonlinear control force in SMC depending on the magnitude of uncertainty in the wind force. It is also shown that the direct application of SMC to the control of tall buildings using ATMD can have some practical problems which can be eliminated by properly designing a compensator to filter out the unwanted effects of the ATMD
