Abstract :
The theory of Markovian decision processes has been used to characterize the structure of optimal policies for control of arrivals, routing, and servicing of jobs in queues and networks of queues, such as arise in industrial and communication systems. Efficiently calculating the parameters of such policies remains a formidable problem. We discuss several approaches.
