Abstract :
Currently the computer systems supporting manufacturing constitute several "islands of automation", each oriented to a particular application solution. Customers are desirous of integrating or consolidating these islands of automation into compatible systems. This integration can be achieved only by implementing solutions which function as parts of an overall system. Applications solutions must be designed to work together, and the system environments in which they are installed must support inter-operability of the applications.
