Abstract :
The FALCON-A, a 16-bit RISC processor, is a simple but powerful CPU for understanding the concepts of computer architecture. This paper describes the implementation of the FALCON-A ISA on Spartan-3E FPGA platform using VHDL. Extensive timing simulations were carried out using the Xilinx Integrated Software Environment (ISE) v12.4. The processor´s performance is evaluated by observing parameters like area, speed, and resource utilization. Selected results have been reported at the end of this paper.
