Abstract :
A new method to reduce the number of multipliers in design of sharp FIR filters by the frequency-response masking (FRM) technique is presented. The success of the proposed method is based on a modified FRM approach where one of the subfilters in the FRM approach is implemented by a prefilter-equalizer technique. We have shown by example that the proposed method yields additional savings of 20% in the number of multipliers compared to the original FRM approach
