Abstract
The author presents an algorithm which can be started using a full state feedback gain and converges to an output feedback or decentralized output feedback gain which minimizes a quadratic cost function. The algorithm is obtained by solving an optimal control problem with feedback gain scalar equality constraints adjoined to a quadratic cost function. An example using the algorithm is presented for the design of a lateral autopilot using a limited set of onboard sensors
