Abstract :
Presents the application of an advanced parametric method based on a modified forward-backward Prony method (MFBPM) to the spectral analysis of the closing sounds produced by monostrut Bjork-Shiley (B-Sh), Carbomedics (Carb), and Starr-Edward (S-E) mechanical prosthetic heart valves (MPHV) implanted in the mitral (MI) and aortic (AO) position. Results show that for all types of MPHV the major spectral components are concentrated below 2 kHz. Clear differences have been found between each type of MPHV in their spectral composition for frequencies above 400 Hz. This strongly indicated the relationship between the design and mechanical construction on the spectral composition of the its closing sound
