Abstract
We study the characteristics of various metal-tip monopole antennas for microwave catheter ablation of the endocardium. The investigation is done with a computer model based on the finite-element method in the frequency domain. The results are validated by making measurements of the reflection coefficient of antenna prototypes. We identify design trade-offs and propose optimum dimensions for a microwave applicator
