Abstract :
The costly honeycomb used in Hybrid III 5th female dummy neck calibration experiments and the lower rate of successful experiments because of there are many factors affecting neck deceleration characteristic will cause much waste of manpower and finance. We found from lots of tests that calibration temperature, impact velocity of the pendulum, cells of honeycomb and its cut style would affect the calibration results greatly. In this paper we adopted Taguchi method to determine the optimal levels of these factors, combined with S/N ratio and analysis of variance (ANOVA) to discuss the trends how these factors affect the calibration results. Finally we got the optimized parameters of Hybrid III 5th female neck calibration.
