Abstract :
The aim of this study was to characterize the initial and final stages of the ventricular fibrillation in an experimental model using rabbits through the use of the power spectrum. In these animals the ventricular fibrillation spontaneously revert to sinus rhythm most of the time and the underlying mechanisms still require further investigation. The induction of ventricular fibrillation was performed by electrical stimulation. To assess the influence of the atrial rate, the same measurements were obtained under vagal stimulation. The final stage of ventricular fibrillation was characterized by a decrease of the dominant frequency and the kurtosis, and an increase of the mean power, compared with the initial stage with and without vagal stimulation
