Abstract :
A 60 GHz radio over fiber (RoF) system based on passively mode-locked laser diode (PMLLD) at the transmitter and envelope detection at the receiver is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. At the central station the millimeter wave is produced using a PMLLD and after being intensity modulated using external modulator propagates through single mode fiber. At the base station optical mode beating and envelope detection has been done in order to extract data. A comparison between the coherent and non-coherent detection is also presented. The theory and experimental results show that the impact of phase and frequency instability of the PMLLD on Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) for the communication system based on non-coherent detection is vanished.
