Abstract :
As pacemakers become more complex with technological advances, accurate diagnosis of complications becomes more difficult. A fully interactive computerized expert system has been created for improving the accuracy of pacemaker problem-solving during pacemaker clinic follow-up. The system uses patient-specific pacemaker information as well as knowledge derived from a database of more than 1400 problems evaluated at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. When the evidence is inconclusive, the expert system recommends further tests. When an etiology is identified, appropriate corrective actions are suggested. In conclusion, an expert system incorporating patient-specific pacemaker information as well as knowledge from experienced personnel are combined as a fully interactive and user-friendly consulting tool for clinicians in diagnosing pacemaker-related problems
