Abstract
The relationship between various types of system transformations and pencil equivalence is studied. A Kronecker canonical form for input pencils is described which extends Brunovsky´s canonical form to arbitrary (possibly uncontrollable) generalized state space systems. Necessary conditions for a pencil to lie in the closure of a given equivalence class of pencils are stated. These conditions are shown to be sufficient for controllable input pencils of generalized state space systems
