Abstract
Maximum likelihood (ML) receivers often do not have perfect knowledge of the channel and use a channel estimate for decoding. In this context, the receiver is said to be mismatched. A free distance expression for a mismatched ML receiver is derived and applied to the special case of linear coded modulation. A truncated union bound approximation is used to accurately predict the error probability
