Abstract :
To compete in today´s global economy, an organization responsible for design and manufacturing of complex products must continually reduce concept-to-market time, improve product quality, and reduce overall cost. Dimensional management is both an engineering methodology and a set of computer software tools that, if implemented correctly, is a proven process to help achieve these goals. Specifically, dimensional management provides the ability to dramatically improve the odds of manufacturing and assembling a product correctly “the first time” to meet customer expectations. Early in the design phase of a product, the dimensional management process provides rapid and simultaneous communication of numerous product and process changes to the entire design and build team. The outcome is significant reduction in the impact of assembly and manufacturing variation on the overall product requirements which in turn reduces concept-to-market time, improves quality, and reduces cost
