Abstract :
This paper reports on recent work fabricating multilayers using an automated lapping process. A direct comparison between a single layer ceramic and a multilayer composite phased array is presented, including sensitivity uniformity across the entire array. A comparison of measured and modeled performance for the same array shows the utility of the KLM model for predicting array performance. Proposed 4- and 5-layer composites are shown to have even better theoretical performance and should be straightforward to fabricate at frequencies up to 3.0 MHz using an established process
