Abstract
An adaptive inverse control approach to annihilate the nutation resonance effect in a two-axis dry tuned gyro is investigated. The proposed adaptive inverse controller consists of a self-tuning regulator and an on-line parameter identification. Completely annihilating the nutation resonance effects allows a gyro cage loop to be closed at a much higher control bandwidth. Least squares filtering algorithm is selected for an on-line parameter identification implementation. Hardware tests for demonstrating the proposed inverse controller using microprocessor-based digital control system were performed. The test bed is a fourth-order electronic plant which synthesizes a two-axis dry tuned gyro dynamics. The TI 9989 (16-bit) microprocessor system was used to implement the adaptive inverse control law. The test results indicate that the proposed adaptive inverse control is feasible for improving servo performance, which is otherwise limited by variable plant parameters.
