Abstract :
The shortage of traditional energy sources like fossil fuels is getting worse on earth today. Therefore, the exploitation in dipping renewable energy such as wind power has become an essential issue in both academia and industry recently. The installed wind power capacity in the world has been increasing rapidly over the past decade. However, wind energy is distributed, and varies significantly according to the meteorological conditions. As a result, the development of online wind power monitoring system is indispensable before installing a wind power generation. In this paper, a PC-based virtual instrument (VI) that can carry out an on line maximum wind power tracking using Lab VIEW and the microprocessor (MCS-8051) is proposed. The nearby PC (Server) can collect real-time data, i.e. wind direction, speed, etc., that is transmitted to remote PCs (Clients) for instant wind power analysis via the Web. The history of wind information can also be recorded and tracked in the database by clients. A practical model of small wind generation system is set up to demonstrate its on-line operation for remote dynamic maximum wind power monitoring and control.
